morton fraser is a firm with a very long pedigree - in 2004 we celebrated our 175th anniversary.
tracing the "morton" line our origin dates back to 1829.
The founding partner was Charles Morton - born in 1806 - who set up in partnership with James Greig in 1829. The firm name was Greig & Morton WS. Various mergers took place and in 1961 the firm merged with J & J Milligan WS, the two firms becoming known as Morton, Smart, MacDonald & Milligan WS. In 1968 we merged again with Fraser, Stodart & Ballingall WS to become Morton, Fraser & Milligan WS - re-branding to Morton Fraser in 2000.
Interestingly, if one follows the "Fraser" line, Morton Fraser was probably nearly 250 years old in 2004, but records for this period are so sparse that, being lawyers, we opted for the date which had evidence to back it up and celebrated our 175 anniversary!
