Employment Tribunal Limits Increase

The annual increase to Employment Tribunal award limits has just been announced. These change on the 1st February each year and as of 1st February 2011 the position is as follows:-

• maximum unfair dismissal compensatory award £68,400 (increased from £65,300)
• maximum week's pay £400 (increased from £380 - this figure is used for calculating statutory redundancy payments and the basic award in an employment tribunal)

This now means that the maximum unfair dismissal award can be £80,400 (basic award plus compensatory award).

As indicated the maximum unfair dismissal compensatory award will increase to £68,400. One of my previous blogs shows how this figure has changed over the past 15 years or so:-

Bear in mind that there is still no limit to the amount that can be awarded for unfair dismissal for certain health and safety and whistleblowing reasons. In addition, there is no limit to the amount that can be awarded for discrimination claims.
