Position Clarified On Qualifying Service Issue

Further to yesterday's blog - Two Year Qualifying Service And Tribunal Fee - a clarification statement was issued by the Government indicating that this was a drafting error and that no final decision has, in fact, been taken to increase the unfair dismissal qualifying period from 1 to 2 years.

The clarification statement (and previous communications on this point from the Government) does though seem to make clear that fees for lodging a claim will be introduced in some shape or form in the future. This may be good news for employers if it deters frivolous claims.

No doubt further information will be forthcoming over the coming weeks and months.
