National Stress Awareness Day - 2 November 2011

A reminder that next Wednesday (2 November) is the 13th National Stress Awareness Day.  The Day is promoted by the International Stress Management Association UK (ISMA) with the theme of this year’s event is “Wellbeing & Resilience At Work”.

Stress, of course, is the cause of a huge number of employee absences throughout the UK and the CIPD’s recent absence management survey - Absence Management 2011 – reported that for the first time stress is the number one cause of long term absence for both manual and non-manual workers.

If you are interested in hearing more about National Stress Awareness Day and what your organisation can do the ISMA website provides further details.

I mentioned in a blog post last year that the CIPD, together with various other organisations, has published a Guide entitled “Work-related Stress: What the law says” which is worth a look. The Guide contains information which is particularly helpful for employers including a “checklist of key questions to check your compliance”. The Guide can be accessed here.
