As reported in an article on the BBC news website, the provisional results of the 2011 Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings were released yesterday by the Office for National Statistics. This is well worth a read for benchmarking purposes.
As the Report states, the survey is based on a 1 per cent sample of employee jobs, drawn from HMRC PAYE records and contains information on the levels, distribution and make-up of earnings and hours paid. Among the Report’s key findings were the following:
As the BBC article reports, the survey indicates that there continues to be a gender pay gap, although notably it appears that this has reduced when compared with the 2010 figures. Geographical pay disparities are also evident from the Report’s findings.
