Person-Centred Transition Facilitators Wanted. Wanted for what? Hopefully to explain what this job title means.
The BBC reports that employers may be trying to “keep staff on side” by way of “beefed-up job titles”. In times of recession, it appears employers may be trying to dazzle staff with new and exciting job titles, while in reality the employee has not been promoted, nor will he receive a pay rise.
The Plain English Campaign received a local authority job advert from a member of the public for a "person-centred transition facilitator". A spokesman said that they “debated for hours what this means”.
So does giving an employee a title full of important-sounding jargon really benefit anyone? It really comes down to personal choice. There is no harm in giving staff jazzed-up titles if it is felt this may boost confidence, but the titles really have to be meaningful and easy for third parties to understand, otherwise I suspect that you may end up undermining your organisation.
