I recently attended my first committee meeting of 2011/12 for the Action for Children Scotland's Woman of Influence Awards. As a keen supporter of the Awards which celebrate women who have had a positive impact on Scottish society, I knew there was a great level of commitment but am constantly amazed to witness the dedication of the committee. It is humbling to hear about the site visits to projects by committee members, and how the impact of these has motivated them to commit more and more time to supporting the charity. People such as the Chair, Jo Mickel, Vicky Fleming-Brown Farah Khushi of Trespass, Rowan Main (a full time charity campaigner for breast cancer research) and many other worthy West Coast ladies who balance working and family life and yet give their time to this worthwhile venture, are to be admired.
I am looking forward to playing my part in an extension of the support Morton Fraser have given to the Women of Influence awards over the past 3 years. The Awards raise much needed funds and profile for the dynamic Action for Children charity which supports and speaks out for the UK's most vulnerable and neglected children and young people. In my line of work as a divorce specialist I see all too often the devastation difficult lives can have on children and as a mother am deeply passionate about making a difference to the lives of others in my professional capacity.
I feel this is the beginning of an emotional and inspiring journey as a committee member and am looking forward to the months of discovery ahead.
