Morton Fraser has been pleased to be involved in advising Simply Play and Family and Community Development West Lothian (formerly Broxburn Family and Community Development Centre) on the merger of ten out-of-school-care clubs into one organisation – Simply Play.
Simply Play was created in consultation with West Lothian Council, West Lothian Early Years and Childcare Partnership and Family and Family and Community Development West Lothian. It has been created to provide high quality affordable childcare to families and communities across West Lothian, and should relieve working parents of the personal risk and financial liability of being required to set up and run their own childcare services. It is also West Lothian Council’s creative and innovative approach to rescue what some perceive as a nationally failing model of parent-led clubs.
Simply Play’s mission is simple: “Working together to provide high quality, accessible and affordable out of school childcare across West Lothian”. It was officially launched last week by Adam Ingram, Minister for Children and Families, with the announcement that two clubs are soon to transfer.
Lauren Scott of Morton Fraser’s Charities team said:
We have been delighted to be involved in this project which has brought together so many interested parties, all of whom share the same vision. Simply Play is a great initiative, which will relieve many parent-trustees of the increasingly onerous responsibilities of running child care facilities. I have no doubt that Simply Play will be a huge success – to the credit of Raymond and his supportive and enthusiastic team – and that it will act as a blueprint for similar initiatives across the country.
Raymond Branton, CEO of Simply Play said at the launch:
Special thanks go to Morton Fraser, our solicitors, whose support and advice has been invaluable and who have gone beyond the call of duty to support us. They have shown that some lawyers do have hearts!
