The Morton Fraser specialist Adoption Team welcomed Advocate Lynda Brabender on Wednesday 15 June and over 70 guests from organisations throughout Scotland to provide targeted training which focused on the developments in childcare law following the introduction of the Adoption (Scotland) Act 2007.
A mix of solicitors and social workers working within local authorities gathered for this first of its kind event, organised courtesy of Morton Fraser Solicitors, who hosted the event.
Delegates fed back that they found the event both informative and inspiring, with discussions leading to sharing ideas in best practice and learning from case studies.
Rhona Adams, Partner and Head of Family Law at Morton Fraser commented "We were overwhelmed with the response for this event which became fully subscribed very soon after invitations were issued. In fact we were oversubscribed and have since arranged to re-run the session in-house for local authorities. Recent changes in adoption and childcare law have impacted significantly on the day to day work of practitioners. We work hard to ensure our clients are kept well advised as these changes unfold"
Solicitors Anna Forsyth and Rachel Shewan who also presented alongside Lynda Brabender have a wealth of experience of acting in direct adoption petitions, and for local authorities, formerly in freeings for adoption and parental responsibilities orders, and now in permanence orders, both with and without authority to adopt.
Morton Fraser urges any Authorities who would like to discuss running such a session, which also includes CPD hours for practitioners to contact their Family Law Team familylaw@morton-fraser.com
