Adoption was the theme at the The Morton Fraser Café on 2 November when professionals and potential adopters alike were welcome to share views and discuss perspectives about adoption. The Morton Fraser Café is held regularly and enables individuals, families and professionals to drop in and talk to lawyers on an informal basis. It provides a great forum for you to get answers to questions, which then enable you to formulate thoughts and plans, before booking a more formal appointment with a solicitor.
The adoption theme was arranged by Morton Fraser’s Adoption specialists within the Family law Team in support of National Adoption Week. Fellow professionals from Edinburgh Council and Barnardos, the child placement agency, joined the Morton Fraser Team and answered questions and shared experiences with a number of people who popped in for a coffee.
Whilst some who attended were already involved in the adoption process, others made this their first stop on the road towards adoption and admitted it was the very first time they had spoken to anyone about considering adoption. The informal and relaxed yet informative setting was of great benefit.
Morton Fraser’s own Chairman, Linda Urquhart is adopted and is keen to support her team ensuring that the journey for individuals and families is as easy as possible, for what is such an emotive issue. “Sadly you often only hear the negative stories about adoption and yet adoption had a very positive influence on my life. It gave me the best possible start in life with a loving and supportive family. I’ve gone on to become a parent myself and to build and enjoy a successful career in law and business. I have a keen interest in supporting our Adoption Team to assist local authorities and families to successful outcomes.”
This event followed a Morton Fraser seminar held for professionals exploring legal considerations in the adoption process earlier this year.
Morton Fraser’s Family law Team are ranked in band 1 in the Chambers legal directory and also in the Legal 500. If you would like to find out more about adoption contact Anna Forsyth.
