A project set up as part of Scotland's Year of Islands by marketing initiative Scotland's Islands has offered further funding for community events. Bids for the funding have been invited from of food and drink-related initiatives.
The celebrations will start in April with the aim of showcasing island culture and creativity. You can read the BBC’s report on them here.
This innovative and supportive project aims to give a boost to Scotland’s rural communities, and is a partnership initiative by a variety of local authorities working alongside Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Event Scotland and VisitScotland.
Fiona Richmond, of Scotland Food & Drink, commented: “events promoting local produce could cash in on an important area of the Scottish economy”, reporting that "£800 million per year is spent on food and drink by overnight visitors to Scotland.”
With the export for food and drink also on Scottish Enterprise's agenda, there is structured support for agricultural businesses looking to diversify into food and drink.
