So far this year the City of Edinburgh Council has already signed up to projects to procure a library and community hub at Drumbrae and a library and neighbourhood office at Craigmillar. They have now signed up to a third project under the hub scheme, this time for a new healthy living centre at Wester Hailes, Edinburgh. Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon attended the site on Monday (14th November) to mark the start of the construction work.
The Wester Hailes Healthy Living Centre, a joint development between NHS Lothian and the City of Edinburgh Council, is the first in a series of community health projects planned by the Scottish Government, and another 20 or so projects are being considered across Scotland as part of a much larger investment through the hub scheme. It is also the first “shared scheme” to be procured under the hub initiative.
Morton Fraser are the legal advisers to the City of Edinburgh Council for the Wester Hailes development. This follows Morton Fraser's success in also providing legal advice to the same Council on Craigmillar library, another hub project to have signed since the hub scheme was introduced.
Suzanne McCord and Jonathan Seddon of Morton Fraser's project team worked together on the Wester Hailes development.
Jonathan, who is head of Morton Fraser's public sector group said: "We are delighted to have been involved in another hub project on behalf of the City of Edinburgh Council, and we have advised on two of the four Design & Build capital projects that have signed so far. The Council is a prestigious client for us, and it is very rewarding to have been heavily involved on their behalf in another important project for the community. As a firm we are establishing a track record in hub projects which are currently in the early stages of what will hopefully be a significant programme".
