The BBC has reported that former X Factor contestant Gamu Nhengu and her family have won their immigration fight to stay in the UK.
The Home Office had appealed to overturn a decision to grant the 19-year-old, her two brothers and their mother leave to remain in the UK.
Gamu has lived with her family in Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, for several years after coming to Scotland from Zimbabwe as a dependant while her mother studied in Scotland.
She became a household name in 2010 when she got through to the judges' houses stage of the X Factor show. She hit the headlines when a controversial decision by Chery Cole was made not to put Gamu through to the live shows, instead favouring Cher Lloyd and Katie Waissel.
The Home Office had disputed Gamu's mother's claim to working tax credits. Jamie Kerr, an immigration expert at Morton Fraser, commented: "Gamu's case shows the importance of seeking expert legal advice at the earliest stage of any immigration application. The difficulties that often arise when dealing with immigration matters can be extremely distressing and I would always emphasise the need to seek guidance at the earliest possible opportunity. Gamu has been fortunate enough to have her case allowed by the courts, though we must bear in mind that there are many more in her position who are not so fortunate."
