New Year Honours recognises Morton Fraser Chairman

Posted: Wednesday 4 January 2012

Morton Fraser congratulates its Chairman, Linda Urquhart, on being awarded an OBE in the New Years Honours.

Linda joined Morton Fraser – at the time called Morton Fraser Milligan – in 1983 as a solicitor in the commercial property department. She quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a partner in 1985 and then kicking off her 12-year tenure as chief executive in 1999.  As one of the few women to have run a Scottish law firm, Urquhart was described last week in the Scotsman as the “first lady of law”.

Linda stood down from the top post last year and became chairman, working with new chief executive, Duncan Murray, a partner in the firm’s employment practice.

Her new role with Morton Fraser has allowed Linda to extend her broader work in the community with Scottish Enterprise, Investors in People Scotland, the CBI (where Linda has also spent two years as chairwoman of CBI Scotland and has now stepped up to the organisation’s main UK board as a non-executive director), the Prince's Trust and as an ambassador for Girlguiding UK.

Linda commented: “I am delighted and honoured to have received the award and my family and I are very much looking forward to our visit to the Palace."
