Scotch whisky industry is in for a pleasant surprise

Posted: Friday 27 January 2012

The Scotch whisky industry is in for a pleasant surprise when it comes to exports to India, according to the country's chief trade negotiator.

Scotland's most successful export business is hoping for good news at a trade summit between the EU and India on 10 February after the country's chief trade negotiator, also the commerce secretary in the New Delhi government, told BBC Scotland there was a "very strong" prospect of a free trade agreement this year. You can read more about the trade summit here.

India has the world's largest whisky market and offers significant export potential for Scotland's economy.  The food and drink sector in general is booming, according to Scottish Enterprise, the body tasked with supporting economic growth.  Scottish Enterprise has a dedicated team who can support food and drink producers as they navigate new market opportunities.

Morton Fraser has business, licensing and international experts who can help you develop your export business within the food and drink sector. If you would like to find out more contact Linda Urquhart, Chairman of Morton Fraser, at linda.urquhart@morton-fraser.com
