Andrew Meakin acts for banks, financial institutions and borrowers on all types of debt and structured finance transactions throughout the UK, with particular emphasis on corporate debt, real estate finance, social housing and local authority finance and corporate debt restructuring. He also advises English and overseas legal firms on Scottish aspects of UK and international finance transactions and securitisations.  

Andrew has particular expertise in advising local authorities on loan documentation, the legal treatment of “forward starts” and other rate management products.

His team regularly advise on local authority bond certificates and the acquisition and disposal of local authority loan books.

Andrew advised on the UK’s first local authority asset backed covered bond which involved general advice on local authority borrowing as well as specific advice on transfer provisions and the creation of trusts over local authority debts.
