Iain has over 30 years experience acting for businesses and their owners and acting for charities.
He advises sole traders, partnerships and companies, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), as well as local and national charities. His expertise covers whether and how to incorporate a business carried on by a sole trader or partnership, how to finance a business, how to incentivise the employees of a business and how to extract profits from a business, and covers business acquisitions and disposals as well as shareholder and partnership disputes and directors' duties and responsibilities.
Iain's advice to charities covers how and in what form to establish a charity and how to satisfy the requirements to have a charity recognised by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) and also constitutional and governance questions.
When a business or charity needs specialist legal advice regarding premises (including the acquisition, building, refurbishment and disposal of premises, the leasing of premises and landlord/tenant negotiations) or regarding employer/employee issues, intellectual property, contract formation and disputes, debt collection or any other matter, Iain acts as a link between the business and the specialist Morton Fraser solicitor providing that advice.
Likewise when the owner of a business needs advice on wills, family trusts and capital gains tax and inheritance tax planning, and generally on asset protection planning, Iain will act, when his doing so can add value, as a link between that owner and the expert within Morton Fraser giving that advice.
