Energy & Utilities

Morton Fraser recognises the key importance in the economy of energy and have a dedicated energy team to supply knowledge to this specialist sector.

We work with clients in the energy sector including those involved in oil and gas, power transmission, renewables and nuclear.

Specific sectoral experience includes:

  • Energy - Nuclear, coal, gas, electricity, Carbon Capture and Storage
  • Oil & Gas - Extraction, supply and exploration contracts
  • Water - Water abstraction, waste water treatment, hydro, wave and tidal
  • Renewables - Off-shore wind, on-shore wind, biomass/biofuel, waste to energy, geo thermal, solar, tidal wave, hydrogen and fuel cells and micro generation
  • Waste - Diversion of the waste stream particularly with regard to heat/emissions trading
  • Infrastructure - major projects such as nuclear decommissioning to general utilities work such as pipeline agreements
  • Financing - project and asset finance for all of the above energy projects.

Our clients include a wide range of corporate and public sector clients including  the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority and the Scotland Gas Networks.

The energy team works with our planning team on planning issues affecting clients in the energy sector, especially issues of planning permission for wind farm development. We advise clients on large-scale projects involving contaminated land and waste management issues.

Our expertise also includes joint venture agreements and we have a strong record in assisting high-tech university spin-out companies with their early stage intellectual property and funding requirements.
