Crofting

Crofting law is a complex area, and one which requires reliable advice at the earliest possible opportunity.

Morton Fraser has expert solicitors with extensive experience in dealing with all aspects of crofting law arising under the Crofters (Scotland) Act 1993 and the more recent amending Acts of 2007 and 2010.

Acting for both landlords of crofting estates and tenants throughout the crofting counties, our experience covers:

  • The purchase of crofts
  • The transfer of croft tenancies
  • Succession issues
  • Resumption
  • Decrofting applications

We are also able to advise on how crofting law affects proposed wind farm developments on croft land.  Our litigation team has experience of crofting matters in the Scottish Land Court, and the Agriculture & Rural Property team are active members of the Crofting Law Group.
