We have one of the largest litigation divisions in Scotland, and all our solicitors regularly pursue and defend cases in the Sheriff Courts.
We also have three solicitor advocates: Joy Barnard, Jenny Grant and Richard McMeeken who provide our clients with an in-house advocacy (court representation) service. This means that they can represent our clients in all civil courts throughout Scotland, including the Court of Session, without the need to appoint external counsel.
There are clear advantages for clients instructing our in-house Solicitor Advocates, including:
A Seamless Service - Our lawyers represent clients through each stage of the process from the initial query through to completion. This means that they develop an unrivalled understanding of their situation and desired outcomes and are able to work proactively, both in and out of the courts, to best meet their needs.
Direct Communication with Solicitor Advocates - Our in-house solicitor advocates maintain a direct line of communication with our lawyers and clients can also speak directly to the lawyers and advocates who are representing their interests.
Cost Control - We also offer flexible feeing structures for advocacy work which ensures that we remain competitive with our peers and with independent advocates practising at the Bar. In addition, as all elements of client work are being handled by Morton Fraser we can effectively manage all legal costs to meet clients’ expectations.
Expertise - Our Solicitor Advocates are experienced in a range of contentious matters from personal injury actions to procurement disputes. They use this expertise to deliver the very best outcomes for our clients both in and out of the courts.
Best value - Our Solicitor Advocates regularly represent clients in court without an instructing solicitor (which would typical be required when instructing external counsel). This saves money as there is no duplication of effort which provides best value for our clients.
There are of course instances where appointing external counsel is preferable to running cases through our Solicitor Advocates. We will however, in all cases talk you through the pros and cons of both options so you can make a fully informed decision about what is best for you.
