Discrimination Laws

The Equality Act 2010 prohibits discrimination in the workplace. Discrimination is unlawful where it is on the grounds of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation or religion and belief. There is no limit to the amount that can be awarded for unlawful discrimination and, as such, a discrimination claim is a significant risk for employers.

For a full breakdown of the Equality Act and its key messages, please visit our Discrimination Factsheet.

Within our employment team we have a specialist team of discrimination lawyers led by Duncan Murray, who is an expert in the field of discrimination and has been involved in some ground breaking discrimination cases.

We have developed the following support for employers to assist you in minimising the risk of a discrimination claim and to put you in the best position to defend a discrimination claim if one is raised:-

  • Discrimination audit/health check
  • Discrimination compliance training for managers and supervisors
  • Training on avoiding harassment claims
  • Advice on drafting & implementing adequate equal opportunity policies

In the event that a discrimination claim is raised our expert discrimination lawyers will robustly defend your position in an Employment Tribunal.
