Redundancy

In a difficult economic climate, you may be forced to consider the possibility of redundancies. This can be a stressful time for everyone involved and employers must ensure that they minimise the risk of a successful claim for unfair dismissal. Our specialist employment lawyers can support and guide you through the redundancy process.

Many issues need to be considered prior to redundancies taking place including ensuring there is a genuine redundancy situation; choosing lawful selection criteria; consulting with employees; discussing alternative employment; calculating redundancy payments (if applicable); and following a fair redundancy procedure.

At Morton Fraser our lawyers have advised on a very diverse range of redundancy scenarios over the years.

For more information about redundancy, check out our and To assist you we have created a Redundancy Factsheet which highlights key areas of the redundancy process and provides some essential tips for employers. See also Redundancy - Frequently Asked Questions.
