Civil Partnership Dissolution

“ your kind calm manner has helped me so often through this awful process.” Private client

In any “Top Ten” list of the most stressful events in life, divorce usually features in the top three. This is legally referred to as Dissolution for civil partnerships.

The Family Law Team at Morton Fraser has extensive experience in dealing with dissolution cases. You can rest assured we will do all we can to protect your interests while making the process as stress-free as possible. Our civil parternship dissolution experts in Edinburgh and Glasgow work with clients across the UK and internationally on complex separation and dissolution matters.

What next?
Contact our Family Law Team and we will guide you through what can be a complex area of law. There are a number of issues to consider:

  • The actual process of dissolution. It is a court process and you will need expert advice.
  • Children of the civil partnership. With whom should they live? What is in the best interests of the child? How will contact with the other parent be regulated? What about school? Grandparents?
  • The home. Will you stay in the home? Your partner? Or should it be sold? If so, what should happen to the proceeds?
  • Other assets such as business, investments, savings, cars, holiday homes, furniture, wedding presents etc. Who keeps what? What of family pets?
  • Pensions and policies. How should these be split?
  • Joint bank accounts and credit cards. What of any debts?
  • Should one party be entitled to a larger share of the assets than the other? Many different factors can be taken into account.

This is just the tip of the iceberg in many cases. Some partners own a number of properties in different countries; are in business partnerships; are directors of the same companies etc.

Our Family Law Team’s civil partnership experts have a proven track record of obtaining good results for our clients. You will have access to one of the largest, most respected and award winning teams of family law specialists in Scotland. Please do not hesitate to contact our legal and mediation experts in our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices.
