As one of the largest public sector legal teams in Scotland, we are a trusted partner to clients with interests in local government, handling high value and sensitive matters while protecting the public purse.

Independently described as one of the top public sector firms in Scotland, Morton Fraser MacRoberts enjoys a reputation as leading advisers to Scottish central and local government clients, offering expertise on a range of projects and issues across the country.

We serve over a hundred public sector clients and numerous local authorities on a range of high value and sensitive matters, from complex employment law matters and pension schemes advice, to major developments and infrastructure investment schemes, through to corporate structures for delivering shared services as well as highly sensitive child protection matters.

Supported by our market-leading employment, project finance and construction teams, we provide a fully integrated legal service of all major disciplines for the very largest public sector reforms, restructurings and major projects.

Our approach ensures we offer value for money by adhering to competitive and transparent fee proposals while looking for more efficient ways in which to provide legal services, spreading cost risk and offering greater certainty and transparency.

Working in partnership with local government

We engage quarterly with procurement and commissioning personnel from across Scotland's local authorities to discuss how they can improve their engagement with third sector providers and in conducting social procurement. Through this programme, we have been involved in sessions with City of Edinburgh Council, Glasgow City Council, Highland Council and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Understanding the inner workings of local government

We are increasingly working on innovations in how the public sector should be structured and operated, presenting on such matters to the Society of Local Authority Lawyers and Administrators in Scotland (SOLAR) and advising clients on such matters, in the context of increasingly high value Public Social Partnerships.

We are committed to socially responsible business practices and to giving back to the local community. These commitments ensure our objectives are well aligned with our public sector clients.
