While Jenny's focus is primarily on reparation and personal injury work and Richard's on commercial litigation, they have wide-ranging litigation experience and, as solicitor-advocates, have advised clients on: intellectual property; banking & asset finance; company petitions; employment; private client work (including executry disputes, proving the tenor action etc); family and insurance.
So what can they do for you? Well, basically everything that advocates can do - appearance work, drafting, opinions, consultations and so on. Plus, we like to think that our solicitor advocates are a little more accessible to you than their counterparts at the Bar - they are just at the other end of the phone!
As many of you will be aware the Gill Review is soon going to change the way in which we litigate in the Scottish courts. Many cases which would previously have been dealt with in the Court of Session will be moved to the Sheriff Courts and, as solicitors with more than 20 years Sheriff Court experience between them, Jenny and Richard would be delighted to step into the breach where it is still considered that Counsel should be instructed in such cases. Importantly, solicitor-advocates now have the same rights to sanction in Sheriff Court cases as advocates and can appear on their own without any instructing agent to save the client money if desired.
They are always happy to discuss costs and give the client as much certainty as possible about fees.
