Hugo Allan and Keir Mitchelmore, in Morton Fraser's English Commercial Real Estate team, acted for schuh in two quite different transactions.
The first was the acquisition of an existing store near to Selfridge's at the Marble Arch end of Oxford Street, and the second is to be part of a development near the new Crossrail station planned for the other end of Oxford Street.
Hugo and Keir have been part of the professional team dealing with the legal aspects of their acquisitions of retail space in a number of shopping centres, retail parks and high streets throughout England & Wales.
The deals we have been involved in have moved at quite a pace recently due, partly, to the fall out from the Republic stores which has enabled schuh to pop up in various locations in England & Wales independently before taking on a more permanent lease.
Being able to discuss tricky points in the documents around the table and being able to hold completion documents quickly makes the whole process smoother.
Surprisingly in this digital age, where final documents are often emailed out, there is still a requirement for lawyers to hold 'wet ink' signatures so they can give solicitors undertakings and, being virtually around the corner from schuh's HQ, this has enabled us to move quickly to effect completions and get the contractors access to start the fit-outs.
Morton Fraser have a long history with schuh and have acted for them over the years having dealt with all their Scottish property, corporate and banking requirements.
Hugo and Keir, as well as the Scottish property team, are delighted to be able to continue supporting schuh on the real estate front on a UK wide basis by providing them with a London City service from 'around the corner' in our Quartermile offices in the City of Edinburgh.
And who said the Summer would be quiet...?!
