Morton Fraser, one of the largest independent law firms in Scotland, has been appointed to deliver full service legal representation to Historic Environment Scotland for the next two years, with two possible one year extensions, following a competitive tender.

The exclusive contract will see Morton Fraser’s public sector team provide legal advice across all work streams including commercial contracts, property, grant funding schemes, litigation, IP and IT, and public procurement. The Firm previously represented Historic Environment Scotland and its predecessors from 2004-2016.

Suzanne Hardie, Contract Account Manager for Historic Environment Scotland and Head of the Firm's Public Procurement Team, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Historic Environment Scotland again. As Scotland’s oldest law firm, heritage is important to us and we are particularly pleased to contribute to Historic Environment Scotland’s culturally significant work.  The wide scope of services, which range from grant funding agreements to intellectual property, really draws on the breadth of expertise across our team.”

Maggie Moodie, Morton Fraser Chairman and Head of the Public Sector Team, added: “Like many organisations, the public sector has needed to quickly adapt and rise to unprecedented challenges due to COVID-19, often at the front line. Helping existing public sector clients as well as new ones, like Historic Environment Scotland, navigate the unexpected impacts of the crisis is of the utmost importance to our team.”

Morton Fraser has one of the largest public sector teams in Scotland with over 80 specialists, and more than 100 clients from the public sector including education, government and local authorities.
