For those businesses that are aware of the outcome of the recent CIPD Annual Absence Management Survey the question of whether investment in employee wellbeing is worth it may seem like a rhetorical one. The survey confirmed that stress was having an increasing impact on both short and long term absence rates and that the median cost to business that created was £554 per employee per year.
The National Stress Awareness Day website encourages employers to consider the ways in which stress can arise and identifies job insecurity and conflict with colleagues as possible sources. The CIPD Absence report also placed a focus on employee well being and found workload to be the main cause of stress.
