All money raised by the team at Morton Fraser will go towards funding the Lawscot Foundation, which currently supports 25 law students. Alongside an annual bursary, the charity provides mentoring to recipients throughout their studies to help enhance their confidence, skills and knowledge.

Some of the students supported by the charity have been through unimaginable challenges in life, Laura spent a period of time living in a homeless shelter during school. She said, “Since turning 16, I have been living independently [from my family]. Estrangement comes with its many challenges, but it has the power to help you grow into yourself. Refusing to let this have a negative impact, I stuck in at school and got the grades I needed. I wanted to help people.

“Before coming to university, money was a big issue for me. I was terrified I would not be able to afford it as I do not have parental help, but the Foundation allowing me to have this opportunity has lifted a massive weight off of my shoulders and I am forever thankful.”

Martin Glover, HR Director at Morton Fraser, said, “Diversity and inclusion is important to Morton Fraser and to our clients. We are very proud of the team from Morton Fraser who are raising money to support people from disadvantaged backgrounds get into law. It’s an essential part of the law to help people get justice and that extends to helping all corners of society get into the profession.

“To further our work in this area we are also working with the Law Society as part of their pilot contextualised recruitment project this year to ensure our legal trainee intake reaches into those from disadvantaged backgrounds so they get the fullest opportunity to take up a legal career.  In that way we can become much more representative of the communities which we serve and in which we work.”

Olivia Moore from the Lawscot Foundation said, “It’s such a privilege to be able to help these talented young people and it’s great to see legal employers get so actively involved in increasing social mobility. Thanks to the support from Morton Fraser we’ll be able to help even more students in the future and ensure that the legal profession is as diverse as possible.

Thanks to them we’re able to continue our work improving the lives of these students and help them live their dream of becoming a solicitor.
