Leading independent Scottish law firm Morton Fraser is growing its Medical Negligence team with the appointment of Senior Solicitor Derek Couper.

Derek who has a breadth of experience in dealing with medical negligence cases and also specialises in birth injury and fatal cases is joining Morton Fraser from the Medical Negligence team at Shoosmiths LLP.

His appointment, coupled with the fact that a significant number of Derek’s clients have chosen to move with him, means the team at Morton Fraser will be looking to assist more clients seeking compensation in this area.

Morton Fraser’s Medical Negligence team which is led by two partners, currently handles a full range of cases including misdiagnosis, errors in surgical procedures, orthopaedic injury and elderly care.

Jenny Dickson, Partner and Solicitor Advocate at Morton Fraser, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming Derek and his clients to Morton Fraser. Our Medical Negligence team’s approach to client service as well as the clarity that we are able to provide in these sensitive cases will really help cement our growth in this area and is something we are sure will continue into 2019 and beyond.”

Derek added: “I’m excited to be joining a firm which has such a strong reputation in the Scottish market. The team’s experience, the quality of work and their relationships with clients really speaks for itself.

“The work I specialise in requires a lot of understanding and sensitivity and the team at Morton Fraser demonstrates this in the work they do. I really look forward to bringing my existing clients to the firm as well as establishing and building new relationships.”
