The Government states that the purposes of the Enterprise Bill are to make sure that Britain is the best place in Europe to start and grow a business; that people who work hard have the opportunity to succeed; to cut red tape for businesses; encourage investment in skills; and make it easier for small firms to resolve payment disputes by setting up a Small Business Commissioner.
The key employment law related aspects are as follows:
- A power to introduce a cap on public sector exit payments to end six figure pay offs.
- Protecting the "apprentice" brand so that it can be used to cover only government accredited schemes.
The Bill is scheduled to have its second reading in the House of Lords on 12 October.
