Rory, a planning specialist and Legal Associate of The Royal Town Planning Institute, will join Morton Fraser as partner in October having spent four years at the council. Rory headed up the in house legal team of 35 solicitors, and provided legal and strategic advice across the varied service areas of the council.
He becomes the third partner with planning expertise, creating one of the strongest teams in Scotland for all aspects of the planning process. His appointment also follows on swiftly from the arrival of Ken Carruthers (planning and litigation), Elspeth Carson (real estate) and Christian Melville (private client) and underpins the firm’s confidence in both current and future growth.
Morton Fraser recently announced a 24 per cent rise in revenues driven by its successful merger with Macdonalds as well as new client wins in the banking, commercial real estate and the public sector teams.
Announcing the appointment, Morton Fraser Chief Executive Chris Harte, said the addition of Rory Alexander will be a huge advantage, particularly for local authority clients.
“We have a number of longstanding clients in the public sector because we’ve always worked hard to understand the particular issues and political sensitivities they face. Rory’s experience of the unique culture and challenges of local authorities fits perfectly with our ethos and will be incredibly valuable to our growing roster of local authority clients.
“Rory has a tremendous track record and the same aspirations as Morton Fraser for clarity of advice and always seeing things from the clients’ point of view. We’re delighted that he is joining the firm.”
Morton Fraser’s client base includes over 70 public sector organisations including the Ministry of Defence, the Scottish Government, government departments such as Transport Scotland as well as many local authorities.
