The country's oldest law firm, Macdonalds, tracing its origins back to 1614, joined forces with the long established commercial market leader Morton Fraser to create a major presence for Morton Fraser in Glasgow and West Central Scotland to complement the Firm's long established presence in the East and I have been delighted to have been part of this evolution.

I had been with Macdonalds as a commercial property lawyer then partner for over 18 years and enjoyed experiencing the range of business and client types which a firm of such vintage could offer. The growth of Macdonalds was very much interwoven with the development of the city of Glasgow as a major industrial and trading location and it was little wonder to find out that the client list of years gone by had included the likes of one Charles Rennie Macintosh amongst others! The firm also established a reputation for its services to the housebuilding market and listed most of the recognised names in this sector too as clients.

The partners at Macdonalds however always recognised that with the increasingly complex legal market and pressures on business the firm had to be alert as to opportunities to improve the offering to clients and the chance to merge with a firm of the quality of Morton Fraser was simply too good not to seize!

The day has now come! We did know, from past business, and indeed have got to know many of the Morton Fraser partners during the merger process and the fit always felt good to us with a number of natural parallels. We are now up and running in newly fitted out surroundings at 145 St Vincent Street ready to deliver a high quality service with the extra depth and expertise the merger has provided and know that we can as a combined unit deliver what is expected of us by our clients and business contacts in the 21st century business arena. A new chapter begins!
