We have been supporting Sporting Chance Initiative by giving informal advice to some of their young entrepreneurs who are looking to establish start up businesses in the sports sector. We hosted the judging day for the Sports Innovation Challenge at our offices here in Edinburgh last month. The Sports business Innovation challenge is a business development programme and competition, run by the University of Stirling, for entrepreneurial students and recent graduates across Scotland. The judges were Bruce Walker of We Are The Future, Professor Leigh Robinson - Head of School of Sport at the University of Stirling, Jonny Curley of Anytime Leisure, Edel Tucker - Design Director of Adidas and Bonamy Grimes - co-founder of Skyscanner.
Hinda Miller, co-founder of Jogbra Inc, the original sports bra, was awarded a lifetime achievement medal and gave a keynote speech of thanks, which was really quite inspirational. The other award winners on the night were:
- Golphin for Kids - Best new sports product or service
- Diary Doll - Transformative Innovation Award
- Aberdeen Youth Games - Best Innovation in Community Sport
- FirstPoint USA - Sports Business of the Year
- Alex Feechan of Findra - Sports Entrepreneur of the Year
My personal highlight (although not necessarily hers !) was sitting next to Carole Smillie all evening!
