Today is the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child

This year marks the 60th anniversary of UN General Assembly Declaration of the Rights of the Child and today marks the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

As the most widely ratified international human rights treaty in history, the CRC has helped to ensure better protection for the rights of children across the globe.

The Scottish government has been consulting on incorporating the CRC directly into Scots law. They have announced today that they plan to incorporate as much of the CRC as they can into Scots law subject to their reserved powers. This would mean that all public bodies in Scotland including the Scottish government would be legally obliged to uphold children's rights in terms of the convention.
