Bruce is a consultant in our Corporate team, based in Edinburgh. 

He was a non-executive director of EFT Group plc, a quoted asset finance company, until its acquisition by the Bank of Scotland and thereafter of various subsidiaries of the Bank's group.  He was world chairman of Interlaw, the leading international association of law firms from 1988 – 1991 and served on its board for an additional 12 years. He also holds the personal appointment as Solicitor to The Queen in Scotland.

He was chairman of the firm from 1999 until 2011.  He was Lecturer in Conveyancing (Property law) at the University of Edinburgh from 1979 until 1989 and has served many terms as external examiner in the University's law faculty.  He currently sits on the Scottish Law Commission's working party on reform of Scottish moveable property law, the Finance and Leasing Association's working party on implementation of the EU Consumer Credit Directive and the transfer of consumer credit regulation to the FCA, and is Scottish honorary legal adviser to the Asset Based Finance Association.  In addition he has lectured widely and published many articles, including guidance to local authorities on local government finance.

Bruce was appointed a CVO (Commander of the Royal Victorian Order) by The Queen in Her 90th Birthday Honours List.

Bruce is the head of the Asset and Invoice Finance team of the Banking and Finance division. He is regarded as the top individual in both asset finance and invoice finance work in Scotland, and one of the foremost experts in the field in the UK as a whole.

As well as working on large corporate financings, Bruce is also an acknowledged expert on the Consumer Credit Act and has lectured widely on it. He is currently a member of the Working Party of the Finance and Leasing Association (FLA) on Regulatory Reform and advises many financial institutions on consumer credit documentation and compliance.

He leads the team on major ABL financings. In the asset finance field he works on all deal sizes from big ticket financings, including renewable energy financings, to preparing standard form lease and hire purchase documentation for all types of deal, including FCA regulated documentation.  He advises many financial institutions on consumer credit documentation and compliance. 

As well as working on large corporate financings, Bruce is also an acknowledged expert on the Consumer Credit Act and has lectured widely on it. He is currently Lawyer Monthly's UK ABL lawyer of the Year (and Morton Fraser is currently the Lawyer Monthly UK ABL firm of the Year). His clients instruct him on deals South as well as North of the Border.
