Bruce Wood - CVO, WS
Bruce is a consultant in our Corporate team, based in Edinburgh.
He is vice-chair of SRUC (Scotland's Rural College) and chair of its Audit and Risk Committee, chair of the Dementia Services Development Trust, vice chair of the Business Code Group of the Finance and Leasing Association, and a non-executive director of Carrick Asset Finance Limited. He was world chairman of Interlaw, the leading international association of law firms from 1988 – 1991 and served on its board for an additional 12 years. He also holds the personal appointment as Solicitor to The Queen in Scotland and is thus a member of The Royal Household.
He was chairman of the firm from 1999 until 2011 and a partner until 2017 when he moved to a consultancy role. He was Lecturer in Conveyancing (Property law) at the University of Edinburgh from 1979 until 1989 and has served many terms as external examiner in the University's law faculty. He currently sits on the Scottish Law Commission's working party on reform of Scottish moveable property law and the Finance and Leasing Association's working party on Regulatory Reform,. In addition he has lectured widely and published many articles, including guidance to local authorities on local government finance.
Bruce was appointed a CVO (Commander of the Royal Victorian Order) by The Queen in Her 90th Birthday Honours List.
Bruce is one of the best-known lawyers in Scotland and is a past Chairman of the firm. He is regarded as the top individual in both asset finance and invoice finance work in Scotland, and one of the foremost experts in the field in the UK as a whole.
