Associate and Professional Support Lawyer
Helen is an Associate and Professional Support Lawyer within our Litigation department.
Helen trained in private practice in a large commercial firm and, post qualification, has worked in litigation gaining experience in Court of Session and Sheriff Court actions. Following a short time working in data protection and FOI in the public sector, she started working as a professional support lawyer in litigation in 2014.
In 2019 and 2020 she undertook an 11 month secondment to a litigation team within a public sector organisation and gained considerable experience of public sector litigations. She has considerable experience of Court of Session matters and often acts as an Edinburgh Agent providing advice and assistance to other solicitors in relation to these.
In her professional support lawyer role Helen is responsible for ensuring that our people have the latest information available to them through the organisation and provision of training sessions, legal updates and the capture of internally generated legal knowledge. She organises our in-house PEAT 2 trainee training programme for our second year trainees. She delivers training externally to clients and co-ordinates training and knowledge sharing with the firm's solicitors clients through the firm's More for Lawyers offering. She also co-ordinates responses by the firm's litigation division to consultations on law and rule changes to ensure that potential implications which might arise for clients of the firm from these are raised as part of this process.
Helen tutors on the commercial litigation elective course on the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Edinburgh and is a member of the Scottish Association of Litigation Support Solicitors (SALSS).
