John is a Banking and Finance Partner based in Edinburgh and heads our Retail Banking team.
John has over 30 years' experience as a Banking and Finance lawyer and his expertise lies in financial services regulation. He is recognised as one of the UK's leading specialists on the regulation of consumer credit and mortgages.
John also advises clients on marketing materials. This involves the UK code of non- broadcast advertising and direct & promotional marketing (CAP) as well as the broadcasting code (BCAP) which applies to aspects such as sponsorship credits on radio and television services.
John is our Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) compliance officer and anti-bribery partner.
John has recently spent time on secondment with one of the UK's leading banking groups assisting them with delivery of a new leading product and advising on specialist FCA regulatory compliance issues.
John supports a number of clients in relation to consumer credit and mortgage regulatory reform. He is an expert in consumer credit law and advises a range of clients on their regulatory compliance with the Consumer Credit Act 1974 and its associated Regulations. He also advises extensively on the implementation of the Mortgage Credit Directive in the UK, and on other financial services compliance issues.
