At Morton Fraser Lawyers we have highlighted clarity as our guiding principle.
This directs the way we communicate, the way we advise, the way we conduct relationships with our clients and the way we are totally transparent and upfront about our charges. This applies to all our services from the straightforward to the more complex.
Our team comprises experts covering the full breadth of services required by the debt finance sector.
We act for lenders, borrowers and sponsors in a wide range of debt finance transactions across products such as acquisition finance, real estate finance, social housing finance, performing and non-performing loan portfolio sales and marine & aviation finance. We also have extensive experience of providing specialist Scottish advice on global finance transactions.
Andrew is a partner in our Banking and Finance group. His main focus is on debt finance, acting for UK clearing banks and UK and international lenders. He also has extensive experience in the sale and purchase of loan portfolios.
Since the onset of the financial crisis in 2007 / 2008, the Scottish debt finance market has seen many changes. Traditional providers of debt capital have experienced significant change and there are many new entrants to the debt markets. Our experience means that we understand these markets and the legitimate expectations of lenders, borrowers and sponsors, which allows us to anticipate issues in negotiation before they arise.
Through many years of delivering for our clients, we have a proven reputation for providing a level of service which is technically flawless, but which also presents advice and guidance in a manner which is pragmatic and commercial. We regularly deliver this service for our clients within tight timeframes and, where required, within pre-agreed, fixed fee structures (and other flexible billing arrangements).
We are specialists with genuine expert knowledge, here to offer valuable advice. We have grown to become one of Scotland's leading advisers in the financial markets, recognised as such by independent legal directories, including Legal 500 and Chambers.
Clarity is at the heart of everything we do and, accordingly, our advice is concise, focused and easy to follow. This commitment to Clarity also informs our approach to billing through which we offer transparency, often agreeing fixed fees (and other flexible billing arrangements), so that clients can be assured that they’ll only pay what they have agreed to pay.
Our approach to fees
We compete comfortably with City of London firms in terms of value for money and quality of work at the costs appropriate to where our offices are. Where we offer a fixed fee we stand by that fee.
