Employment Law Training
Keep up-to-date with the key legal requirements and best practice in the workplace saving your organisation time and money. Our open programme allows organisations to access high quality training for smaller groups or individuals. We offer regular half day and full day courses in our Edinburgh and Glasgow offices.
Our courses are designed for business owners, HR professionals, line managers, in-house lawyers and finance team members seeking an understanding of, or an update on, specific selected areas. The maximum group size is 20 delegates.
All of our courses have a very practical focus, drawing on our many years of experience of advising both employers and employees on these matters and appearing before Employment Tribunals.
Between 1 October 2018 and 31 December 2018, the Home Office issued fines of nearly £8 million to employers who had breached right to work rules. This course will cover compliance with right to work checks, how to protect your organisation against fines, employing workers from outside the EU and practical tips on how to engage with your existing EU workers and monitor registrations under the Settled Status scheme. We will also look at how future recruitment from the EU will work.
Claims for discrimination are uncapped with six and even seven figure sums having been awarded by Tribunals in the past few years. This course will provide an overview on discrimination law as well as providing practical tips and red flags to avoid when recruiting, managing and dismissing.
Collectively, sickness absence costs UK employers billions of pounds each year. We will help you understand how to best manage short and long term sickness absence including practical tips on how to navigate the legal risks, particularly where disability-related absence is involved.
This can be one of the most challenging workplace issues for employers. We will look at the legal framework and provide you with practical tips on handling employees who can't or won't do the job. This will include looking at tricky issues that can arise during the performance management process including grievances, sickness absence, disability issues and reasonable adjustments.
This session will support you in dealing effectively and efficiently with disciplinary and grievance issues. Topics covered will include techniques to avoid matters escalating, short service dismissals, when and how to suspend, effective workplace investigations, conducting hearings, tricky issues and practical tips.
This one day course is designed to provide attendees with a comprehensive overview of key areas of employment law to assist with dealing with day to day issues that arise in the workplace whilst ensuring that risk is managed appropriately with a view to avoiding costly disputes or Employment Tribunal claims.
