We are one of the 'go to' law firms in Scotland for senior executive advice. Our specialist employment lawyers, based in Edinburgh and Glasgow, have acted for a very wide range of senior executives and office holders in both the private and public sector who have either been dismissed or who have been required to negotiate the terms of their departure.

Although our employment law solicitors are based in Edinburgh and Glasgow we are able to provide employment advice over the telephone or via a video call throughout the UK.

How we can help you

We'll cut though the legal jargon and provide you with a clear understanding of what you're signing. If you'd like us to negotiate the terms of your departure then we will ensure that you get the best deal possible.

Benefits we bring to you

All of our employment lawyers have a huge amount of experience of negotiating and advising on complex executive departures. In addition to our employment law expertise we're also able to advise on tax, pensions, financial planning and corporate law.

We have more Law Society of Scotland accredited employment law specialists than any other team in Scotland. The team is rated by both Chambers and Legal 500 as one of the best in Scotland. Morton Fraser were also commended for employment law by the Times in their Best Law Firms 2021 guide. With many of our new clients coming to us via referrals the value we can add to the process is recognised by the clients that we have acted for in the past. You can see a selection of the many positive testimonials that we have received from our clients below.

This is a highly sensitive area with significant financial and reputational implications. As such, swift, expert advice makes a real difference. We advise on matters such as:

  • Compensation levels
  • Tax efficient payment structures
  • Share option schemes
  • Shareholding issues
  • Bonus payments and LTIPs
  • Carry/co-invest schemes
  • Restrictive covenants
  • Internal and external departure statements and references
  • Executive outplacement coaching
  • Financial Conduct Authority regulatory issues
  • Securing confidentiality
  • Directors’ duties

Our approach to fees

Prior to starting work, we'll advise you of the likely level of our fee and then we'll keep you updated as the matter progresses.

Our goal is to obtain the most financially beneficial package to you.  We will though always keep the situation under review and will advise you if we consider that further negotiation is unlikely to be cost effective.

Where appropriate, we'll attempt to negotiate your settlement package so that our legal fees are covered by your employer. There's usually a limit to the level of fees an employer will contribute, but we'll work to maximise their contribution.
