Scotland's education sector continues to evolve to meet the needs of all age groups against a background of tight budgetary constraints. Covid-19 has particularly impacted parts of this sector and is likely to do so for some time.

Our Education team is recognised as a leading practice in the Chambers and Legal 500 legal directories with substantial experience acting for state and private schools as well as colleges and universities.

Benefits we bring to your business

Whilst all coming under the umbrella of "Education" we are very conscious of the different regulatory and governance frameworks applying to different parts of the sector.

The services we provide are truly diverse. These range from advising Councils on projects forming part of the Scottish Government's £1.8 billion "Schools for the Future" programme to defending court appeals by parents whose choice of school for their child has been refused.

We are one of the largest providers of legal services in the private schools' sector covering a broad remit of work including employment and advice on governance issues. Our work has included advising on the UK aspects of international partnerships.

In the Further/Higher Education sector a large specialist team advised on the only merger between Further and Higher education institutions which involved unique regulatory and governance issues. We act for the SRUC, an institution of higher education on a full service basis and a leading university on specific issues. We advised a college on a wide range of issues including the employment implications of a change management programme We have also been advising on a number of university related commercialisation programmes in respect to intellectual property, commercial contracts and corporate matters. We are a partner of Strathclyde Entrepreneurial Network which supports innovation at the University of Strathclyde.

There can be a lot of similarities across different parts of the sector when dealing with "people related issues" such as employment, student disability, parental complaints, data protection and other sensitive issues which can have a reputational impact on a particular institution.

Our focus is on clarity - both in terms of advice and cost.
