David is a highly experienced Employment Lawyer and Business Immigration Partner based in Glasgow.

As one of the country's most experienced accredited employment law specialists, he has been recognised as a leader in his field in the independent legal directories since 1998.  He is a trusted adviser to private and public sector employers as well as growing SMEs in handling complex contentious and non-contentious matters. Legal 500 have described his advice as ‘clear and practical’. He contributes to our top ranked immigration team, recognised in Chambers as acting for large multi-national companies.

 David has appeared in or supervised the defence of numerous Employment Tribunal cases throughout the UK and represented employers in the EAT in Edinburgh and London. He has advised on employment appeals and interdict proceedings in the Court of Session. Where appropriate he promotes the use of mediation.

 His workload includes advising on dismissals, change management,  whistle-blowing, discrimination, restrictive covenants, TUPE transfers, collective redundancies and insolvency related matters.

 David has a track record of dealing with difficult industrial relations disputes on behalf of employers.

 He also advises executives on severance pay and their exit from the business.

His private sector experience includes acting for employers in the manufacturing, energy, financial services, media and sports sectors amongst others.

David has appeared in or supervised the defence of numerous Employment Tribunal cases and represented employers in the Employment Appeal Tribunal ("EAT") across the UK. He has advised on employment appeals and interdict proceedings in the Court of Session. Where appropriate he promotes the use of mediation.

Commercial Real Estate expertise

David has over 30 years' experience dealing with the employment issues in high value commercial work. This includes advising on TUPE and M&A transactions including negotiating indemnities and warranties and dealing with related issues such as restrictive covenants, Consultancy Agreements and post-acquisition restructuring.

Public Sector expertise

Chambers Legal directory have described David as having "an enviable reputation in the field of employment law" whilst Legal 500 have stated that his advice is ‘clear and practical’. 

David's has a broad experience in the public sector acting for local authorities, central government and Further and Higher education institutions. In particular, he is responsible for advising UK and Scottish Government departments on contentious issues and has significant experience acting for councils, NDPBs, public utilities, colleges and universities.  

David has a track record of dealing with difficult industrial relations disputes on behalf of employers.

His workload also includes negotiating staff transfers under TUPE and senior employee terminations. He is a regular conference speaker including being invited to speak at an advanced level conference for the Public Sector in London in 2018.

Individuals and Families expertise

David has acted for senior employees including directors of listed companies in negotiating Settlement Agreements and exit packages. David has also acted for professional footballers and rugby players in disciplinary hearings before their professional bodies as well as advising Scottish Premier League footballers in player transfers.
