Innes is a Partner and heads up our Litigation Division which is one of the largest and most experienced litigation teams in Scotland.
Innes is an accredited specialist employment lawyer and has been listed in the elite "Leading lawyers" list in the Legal 500 UK 2020 guide to outstanding lawyers nationwide.
Innes advises clients on a wide range of employment matters and, according to Chambers and Partners, is able to see the same issue from multiple perspectives and pull complex advice into its most clearly understood format.
He lectures in employment law at the University of Edinburgh Diploma in Professional Legal Practice and on the Professional Competence Course. Innes also lectures at Edinburgh Napier University on the MSc in Human Resource Management. In addition, Innes leads the UK wide employment law paralegal course run by Central Law Training in conjunction with Strathclyde University.
Innes is also Signet Accredited in employment law, a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development.

Business expertise
Innes acts for both private and public sector employers at all stages of the employment relationship including negotiating severance arrangements and representation before Employment Tribunals. He also works with our corporate and commercial team in relation to SME clients and the employment law implications of business acquisitions and disposals.
Innes is also a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) and is well known within the HR profession in Scotland.
Individuals and Families expertise
He advises employees on a wide range of employment law issues, including unfair dismissal, redundancy, workplace discrimination, disciplinary and grievance processes, negotiated departures and settlement agreements.
Innes very regularly advises senior executives which can be a particularly sensitive with significant financial implications as well as reputational issues at stake. Over the years, Innes has personally advised senior executives in a wide variety of circumstances including departures from most of the major banks as well as other financial institutions and a wide variety of other well-known organisations.
