Protecting a business's intellectual property, or 'brand' by the optimum use of trade marks, patents, copyright and knowhow is central to securing the value of that business. Value can also be generated by the exploitation of that intellectual property (IP), for example through licensing. That value can only be realised, however, if a business takes expert legal advice firstly to identify the types of IP that it owns, and then to ensure that it is robustly protected to minimise the chances of successful challenge by a third party. Taking early advice is key.

Benefits we bring to your business

IT contracts are a specialised area of the law which is continually developing and the rapid recent growth of cloud computing requires agreements carefully tailored to maximise the benefits of business models such as 'software as a service' (SaaS). We can advise on such IT contracts and have recognised experts who can support your business.

Our clients include SMEs, major household names, clients in the technology sector, biotech and life sciences, as well as public sector organisations. From our offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow we advise businesses across the UK and many of our lawyers are dual-qualified (Scotland/England and Wales).

We advise on hundreds of commercial transactions every year so we know the likely pitfalls and how to pre-empt problems. Whatever comes up, the chances are that one of our experienced lawyers has seen it before.
