More for Lawyers is for our professional colleagues. Working in partnership with other law firms throughout Scotland we can ensure that our clients and theirs get the best possible service. Our focus is on litigation agency work in the Court of Session, Sheriff Appeal Court and the All Scotland Personal Injury Court. We also offer mediation services. We appreciate that the type of support you need from us may vary from case to case. With that in mind, our service can range from anything from lodging documents on your behalf to being involved in giving detailed advice and the day-to-day running of cases.

We provide advice to clients on the following areas: commercial contract disputes; company disputes, partnership & shareholder disputes; insolvency and restructuring; property & real estate; banking & finance; insurance; reparation & personal injury; and trusts & executry disputes.

Clarity

Clarity is at the heart of everything we do from providing clear advice to being clear about costs. We are always available to discuss cases with you and to provide an early and clear view on your client's prospects of success and give them a sound understanding of the timescales and costs involved in the proposed litigation. We now offer success fees for our litigation services in appropriate cases and would be glad to discuss with you whether a success fee would suit your client.

Advocacy service

We have four solicitor advocates at Morton Fraser together covering all aspects of civil and commercial litigation in Scotland. Richard McMeeken leads our commercial litigation team and has experience appearing at all levels of the Scottish court system including the Inner House of the Court of Session. Jenny Dickson covers our reparation and insurance practice and again has appeared in the Outer and Inner Houses of the Court of Session. Our employment offering includes Andrew Gibson who appears regularly at employment tribunals throughout Scotland and Nikki Hunter in our family law team provides advocacy support in family and child disputes. All of our solicitor advocates are available to consult with your clients as an accessible and cost-effective alternative to counsel.

Mediation service

When litigating, lawyers have a professional obligation to discuss ADR with their clients. Our Mediation services are led by David Hossack, who is an accredited mediator with many years of experience and is one of the leading mediators in Scotland. The mediation team also includes employment associate, Laura McKenna is also an accredited mediator. We can offer mediation for any civil or commercial dispute, but are also pleased to be able to offer a fixed-price online employment mediation service, specifically aimed at helping your clients resolve disputes arising either in the course of a working relationship or where that employment relationship has already terminated. This provides an alternative to the traditional method of resolving disputes through the Employment Tribunal system, with the end result being captured in a Settlement Agreement or an ACAS agreement.

Keeping you up to date

We provide regular legal and professional practice updates in our More for Lawyers Bulletin. We have traditionally held an annual conference which is attended by lawyers and other professional colleagues from across Scotland and also offer a range of online and virtual training events throughout the year which are free to sign up for. In addition, we are accredited by the Law Society of Scotland to deliver Trainee CPD and offer places at these sessions to external trainees.
